Addressing the impact of the changing environment on respiratory health

Submit your research to Expert Review of Respiratory Medicine

About the Article Collection

The intricate relationship between our environment and respiratory health has never been more crucial. This Collection explores how we can prevent and manage the complex interplay between environmental factors and lung health.

Air pollution emerges as a primary concern, acting as both a trigger and amplifier of serious respiratory conditions. From the rising incidence of asthma and COPD to the increasing prevalence of lung cancer, the air quality around us plays a pivotal role in shaping public health outcomes.

Climate change presents a multifaceted challenge, creating a cascade of effects that impact respiratory wellness:

  • Rising global temperatures deteriorate both indoor and outdoor air quality

  • Shifting weather patterns alter pollutant concentrations and distribution

  • Increased humidity levels create ideal conditions for respiratory pathogens

  • More frequent and intense wildfires release harmful particulates, causing both immediate and long-term respiratory damage

Particularly, vulnerable groups face heightened risks:

  • Children, whose developing respiratory systems are especially sensitive

  • Elderly individuals with reduced respiratory resilience

  • People with pre-existing conditions who face compounded health challenges

We are delighted to be working alongside Guest Adviser Dr Joseph Blondeau to bring you this Article Collection. Join us in exploring these critical insights and discovering practical solutions for a healthier, more breathable world.

The Collection welcomes authors to submit relevant Editorials, Reviews, Perspectives, Drug Profiles and Original Research.

The benefit of publishing as part of an Article Collection is that they often become a key resource, driving a research community forward. This has a synergistic effect on every article in the Collection. The articles often receive more views and higher citation numbers as the Collections receive increased promotion via social media and our marketing team.

If you are interested in contributing, or would like to learn more, then please reach out to the Commissioning Editor, Katie Burbridge, who will be happy to assist.
