Journal of Women & Aging: Special Issue Call for Papers
Communication and Aging: Challenges and Opportunities for Older Women
The Journal of Women & Aging is seeking papers for a special issue of articles that will focus on aging and communication. Specifically, the special issue will explore the use of communication strategies that inform and influence individual and community decisions for enhancing older women’s well-being. Original epidemiologic, research and evaluation articles (qualitative or quantitative or mixed methods), secondary data analyses, and systematic/scoping reviews are invited.
Topics of interest include but are not limited to:
- the role of mass communications as well as media portrayal of older adults;
- communication between healthcare professionals, caregivers, and older women;
- new communication technologies for aging populations;
- changes in communication with age;
- attitudes about aging and interpersonal communication;
- intergenerational communication;
- organizational communication;
- communications policy; and so on.
Potential authors should visit the Journal of Women & Aging website to review the Instructions for Authors and specific guidelines for the various types of manuscripts. Importantly, submissions must include a cover letter formatted as requested in the instructions for authors. In all manuscripts, the number of words, references, and tables/figures must correspond to the specific JWA article format. Select manuscripts will undergo editorial review and eventual peer review by the JWA editors and peer referees. Authors will be asked to name three or four potential referees.
The first step in the review process will be submission of an abstract to Daniela Friedman, PhD, associate editor, email@example.com. The deadline for abstract submission is September 3, 2019. Authors will find out by September 15, 2019 if they will be asked for a full manuscript that will need to be submitted by November 1, 2019. Those invited manuscripts should be submitted via the online submission system as a regular submission. There will be a place to indicate that the paper is for a special issue. Please indicate that it is for the 'Communication and Aging: Challenges and Opportunities for Older Women' special issue via the dropdown menu.
When the full manuscript is submitted initially, it will be sent out to reviewers. The reviewers’ comments will then be returned to authors for revisions. Revisions will be due on January 2, 2020. Authors’ revised, final invited manuscripts, including edits based on reviewers’ comments, must be ready for publication by February 28, 2020. For additional information about this special collection of articles, please contact Daniela Friedman, PhD, (firstname.lastname@example.org), associate editor.
