Would you like to be the next Editor-in-Chief of Leisure Sciences?

Leisure Sciences presents scientific inquiries into the study of leisure, recreation, parks, travel, and tourism from a social science perspective. The interdisciplinary diversity of topics and appreciation of a variety of methodologies makes this international forum for leisure research of special interest to research scholars, policy makers, and beyond.

We are looking for a new Editor-in-Chief with strong and broad research experience in social sciences particularly in leisure and her related fields, as well as the passion to drive the journal forward in an exciting period of change. The successful candidate will be responsible for editorial oversight and decision-making on manuscript submissions. This candidate will have an opportunity to contribute to and shape the body of knowledge for the field, and will ensure that reviewers and authors adhere to the Journal’s Code of Publishing Ethics. Additionally, the role includes but is not limited to management of Associate Editors, maintenance of the submission system ScholarOne, and communication with Taylor & Francis Production and various departments. There will be an agreed transition period with the outgoing Editors to ensure a seamless changeover.

Taylor & Francis will provide remuneration for the role to cover journal-related expenses. Taylor & Francis will also organize regular Editor and/ or Editorial Board meetings where possible, and will supply an annual report reflecting on the performance of the Journal.

Becoming the Editor-in-Chief of a journal is a rewarding and fulfilling experience, in which the successful candidate will build their own networks, promote the research deserving of publication, and be recognized as a leading figure within the academic community.

The successful candidate should ideally possess the following skills and attributes:

  • Active in the community with strong professional networks in and beyond leisure studies
  • Confidence to engage with authors and other researchers to solicit the highest quality submissions and reviews
  • Strong organizational skills to ensure that submissions are handled in a timely manner
  • The ability to foster positive working relationships with colleagues (authors, AE’s, reviewers, T&F staff, etc.)
  • This position is available as a co-editorship or as a single editorship - please note your interest in this regard.

The deadline for applications is June 1, 2020 with the successful applicant beginning a shadowing/ transition period with the current Editors from September 1, 2020 and assuming full responsibility for the role from January 1, 2021.
