Call for Special Issue Proposals

The Journal of Experimental Education (JXE) is a premier scholarly research journal publishing basic and applied research studies, in the laboratory as well as in authentic environments, that use the range of quantitative and qualitative methodologies found in the behavioral, cognitive, and social sciences. Published studies span the domains of learning, instruction, and cognition; motivation and social processes; and measurement, statistics, and research design. The journal accepts investigations that address all levels of schooling and a broad variety of educational contexts, including public, private, and informal education in the United States and abroad. The journal’s audience includes researchers and practitioners interested in advancing educational theory and research, improving teaching and learning, and promoting development and well-being.

The journal is divided into three sections: Learning, Instruction, and Cognition; Motivation and Social Processes; and Measurement, Statistics, and Research Design.

Call for Proposals

Editors of the The Journal of Experimental Education (JXE) invite scholars to submit a special issue proposal for the 90th volume. The purpose of the special issue is to provide readers with relevant and high-quality research on an innovative topic within education research and practice. Past special issues can be found on the JXE website.

Special issue proposals will be evaluated by JXE editors in consideration of overall proposal quality, fit of the topic across JXE’s three areas of focus, and relevance, innovation, and opportunity for advancing research and practice across educational disciplines. Guest editors must evidence scholarly experience in the topic of the proposed special issue, convene a panel of eminent reviewers with knowledge in at least one field of the three sections in which JXE publishes, and articulate plans to meet required timelines. Manuscripts will be submitted using the JXE ScholarOne system to facilitate the publication process. The guest editors will coordinate the editorial process with JXE’s editors.

Timeline for Special Issue Proposals

The special issue timeline will follow a cyclical pattern in conjunction with the annual timing of the AERA conference. Thus, a special issue announcement will include an open call for proposals and will occur each April with the proposal acceptance window occurring from December 1st – February 15th.  Once submissions have been considered, notification of acceptance will occur in April proceeded by the announcement of the following special issue and open call.

Submissions will be accepted through the journal’s online submission system (https://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/jxe). Users will need to create a user account if one does not already exist and must select the appropriate Special Issue at the “Manuscript Type” option.

The Special Issue Editors will handle all manuscripts in accordance with the journal’s policies and procedures and expect authors to follow the journal’s submission guidelines.
