Call for Section Editor

All Life

Deadline
29 January 2021

About the role

Taylor & Francis are seeking to recruit Section Editors for All Earth, an exciting new open access Earth Sciences journal.

This peer-reviewed, fully open access journal will be a revamp of an existing JCR- and Scopus-listed journal (2019 IF is 1.607/2019 CiteScore of 3.5), to be re-launched as All Earth, a forward-looking broad-science journal publishing in all disciplines related to Earth and Space Sciences.

Areas of interest will include, but will not be limited to, the lithosphere, hydrosphere, cryosphere, biosphere, and atmosphere, as well as planetary change and earth observation.

Taylor & Francis and the Editor-in-Chief will work closely with the Section Editors to develop this title into a flagship broad Earth Sciences title within our Open Access portfolio, akin to our most recent successful relaunch in the Life Sciences, All Life.

Role Description

We are seeking outstanding academic researchers with an international reputation for research excellence, a passion for communication, a high-level English language proficiency and ideally prior editorial experience working for a scientific journal. They will have the opportunity to work with the journal’s Editor-in-Chief and Taylor & Francis to help shape the future direction of All Earth, by identifying strategies to enhance its quality and reputation.

Working collaboratively with the Editor-in-Chief, Editorial Board, and the Publisher, the successful candidates will undertake the following responsibilities:

  • Overseeing the content and quality of the relevant Section of All Earth
  • Encouraging the submission of manuscripts from both established researchers in the field and promising early career researchers
  • Soliciting, receiving, and processing new contributions to the journal through the peer review process, ensuring that all reviewers and authors uphold the journal’s code of publishing ethics.
  • Providing input on all aspects of submissions from initial vetting of manuscripts to article selections for each issue
  • Review and expand the pool of reviewers as necessary, in terms of size, topic specialty, and geographical representation
  • Implementing improvements to the overall editorial structure of the Section and interacting with associate editors and board members for receipt of reviews, recommendations, decisions, etc.
  • Attending and contributing to editorial board meetings held annually
  • Making periodic assessments of the editorial board and recommending changes when appropriate
  • Acting as spokesperson for All Earth in public forums, meetings and conferences
  • Developing and maintaining beneficial links with the communities and associated organizations
  • To assure that the integrity and reputation of the journal is maintained at all times, Section Editors are expected to adhere to the publishing ethics outlined in COPE Code of Conduct and Best Practice Guidelines for Journal Editors.

The successful candidate(s) will be responsible for editorial oversight and decision-making in their Section. They will have the authority to accept articles following successful peer review, and will ensure that reviewers and authors adhere to the journal's Code of Publishing Ethics. There will be an orientation period to meet the Editor-in-Chief and other Section Editors, and Taylor & Francis will provide the incoming Section Editors with peer review administration support.

Taylor & Francis will provide full peer review administration training and administrative support. Taylor & Francis will organize regular board meetings and will supply regular reports reflecting on the performance of the journal.
