Published in the Journal of Sports Sciences, the purpose of this study was to use internet game record data to estimate the relative importance of these performance components for the outcome of penalty kicks in international matches.

Published in Sports Biomechanics, this article explores the biomechanics of the 180° change-of-direction with the ball (half-turn) in soccer.

Published in Soccer & Society, this article concludes that FIFA 20 is a site for a potent experiential socialisation in racialised myths, where gamers come to know race and the racialized other in sport through feeling the racialized differences of the procedurally generated natural athlete quite literally through their controllers.

Published in Sport Management Review, this article shows and discusses that when [sport’s viewers] can identify the gender of the players, men are rated higher. When the gender of the players cannot be ascertained, however, no significant differences between ratings of female and male athletes were detected.

Published in Research Quarterly for Exercise and Sport, the objectives of this study were to analyze the relationship between psychological variables (self-esteem, anxiety and self-confidence) assessed before the competition and physical and physiological responses demonstrated during the competition in soccer referees and to compare these psychophysical and physiological responses by category (CAT; national and non-national).

The recruitment of athletes with limited resources is a global problem in professional sports. In US Major League Baseball, the experience of the Oakland Athletics’ general manager in the last decade turned his “Moneyball” model into a synonym of quantitative analysis in the transfer market of baseball players. This study, published in the Journal of Sports Sciences, adapted this model to the framework of a multiple criteria decision aid (MCDA), by selecting undervalued players who have complementary abilities.

The improvement of ecological validity of laboratory research studies has recently come to the forefront of technology with virtual reality scenarios. The purpose of this study, published in Sports Biomechanics, was to assess differences between unanticipated and anticipated lower extremity biomechanics while performing a sidestep cutting task.

Published in the Science and Medicine in Football, this article’s findings infer that reduced isometric hip strength during match play may be one risk factor for injury, especially during periods of fixture congestion and practitioners should routinely assess muscle strength to inform training and match exposure based on player readiness. In doing so, it is likely that practitioners may enhance player availability and minimise injury incidence.

Published in the International Journal of Sport and Exercise Psychology, this study explores whether Arabs’ fanship of European soccer clubs influences their feelings of animosity towards those countries.
