WSSTL-2027
Transport systems are essential to modern society, providing mobility and access to opportunities. However, they also present significant challenges, including environmental degradation, social inequity, and health impacts. The second World Symposium on Sustainable Transport and Livability (WSSTL-2027) is dedicated to addressing these challenges by exploring innovative solutions and strategies that promote sustainable transport and enhance livability. The symposium will showcase cutting-edge research, technologies, and practices designed to transform transport systems into engines of well-being and resilience. The symposium website is https://wsstl2027.fvv.tuwien.ac.at/
This special issue, “WSSTL-2027,” would basically cover all the articles that are accepted and presented in the symposium. Articles should focus on key themes that explore the complex relationship between transport systems and quality of life. These themes include:
1. Sustainable Transport and Well-being: This theme will focus on promoting physical, mental, economic, and social well-being through sustainable transport. The topics include exploring how sustainable transport interventions contribute to the overall well-being of individuals and communities, as well as interactions between them. It may include cognitive analyses of transport services, such as community transport and smart transport, as well as how sustainable transport can contribute to the development of social capital.
2. Sustainable Transport and Health and Happiness: This theme will focus on enhancing health and happiness through sustainable transport. The topics include unravelling how sustainable transport interventions can make society and individuals healthier and happier. It may include behavioural analyses of active travel and the aged society.
3. Sustainable Transport and Quality of Life, Equity and Social Justice: This theme will focus on creating liveable cities with improved quality of life through sustainable transport solutions. The topics include discussing strategies for building more liveable urban environments and enhancing quality of life, equity and social justice by prioritizing sustainable modes of transport. Investigating how sustainable transport interventions affect liveability and quality of life (QoL). Papers dealing with just transformation, transport and mobility poverty and inclusive mobility are also welcome under this topic.
4. Sustainable Transport and Safety, Accessibility, Affordability and Environmental Quality: This theme will focus on fostering safety, accessibility to mobility options as well as to facilities, amenities, services and opportunities for everyday lives and occasional needs, affordability and environmental quality through sustainable transport. The topics include addressing how sustainable transport impacts and interacts with these aspects. It may include spatial analyses of urban accessibility and street design, such as the X-minute city and walkable/bikeable streets. Papers dealing with the impact of safety and security on promoting sustainable transport through creating safe environment for pedestrians, cyclists and public transport users, in terms of for example general safeties such as crimes, health-related aspects such as air quality, and traffic safety are also welcome.
5. Sustainable Transport and Disaster Resiliency: This theme will focus on building disaster resilience. The topics include investigating how sustainable transport can contribute towards improving disaster resiliency of urban transport systems.
6. Other aspects of Sustainable Transport related to Liveability and Quality of Life: we also welcome papers exploring additional dimensions of liveability and quality of life intersecting with sustainable transport. Topic may include the role of technology in enhancing liveability and quality of life through sustainable transport solutions. We also welcome vertical topics common to all of the above-mentioned aspects, such as appraisal methods for sustainable transport and liveable cities and participatory planning approaches.
Submission Instructions
We invite original research submissions that can include empirical studies, theoretical research, case studies, review articles, and conceptual papers relevant to any of the symposium themes. The symposium will give equal importance to papers from both developed and developing economies. We particularly encourage papers that address a mix of quantitative and qualitative research approaches, as well as the translation of research into practice.
The review system and process of symposium has been fully integrated with the review system of this journal Sustainable Transport and Livability (TSTL), Taylor and Francis (T&F). This will also ensure less hassle for authors and seamless publication experience. Hence, submissions should adhere to the manuscript submission guidelines established for this journal. All submissions will be processed and reviewed as per review policies and standards of TSTL, T&F.
Please ensure to select “SI: WSSTL-2027” from the drop-down menu for article type while submitting the paper in the TSTL, T&F submission portal. Failing to select the correct article type will lead to paper not being considered for WSSTL-2027. Also, all submitted papers will be reviewed and included for both symposium as well as TSTL special issue of “WSSTL-2027”, if accepted. By submitting your paper, the author(s) consent to the consideration of their paper for both symposium and TSTL special issue “WSSTL-2027”. All papers published in the SI will be published open access with 100% article processing charge (APC) waiver as per the journal’s agreement.
Opening of submission portal: 1st April 2026
Submission deadline for full paper manuscripts: 30th June 2026
