Workplace Bullying and Incivility in Nursing

Manuscripts are sought on the topic: ‘Workplace Bullying and Incivility in Nursing’ for a special edition of Issues in Mental Health Nursing. The journal's readership includes mental health nurses, generalist nurses, physicians, counsellors, ancillary healthcare providers, and the general public with an interest in the topic from across the globe. The journal is peer reviewed and indexed in PsyclNFO, CINAHL, PubMed, and other databases. Its 5-year impact factor is 2.1 (2024).

A broad range of papers related to this topic will be considered, including, but not limited to: workplace incivility, horizontal violence, bullying, mobbing, bystanders, harassment, psychosocial safety, leadership, and organisational culture. We also welcome contributions that explore the lived experiences of nurses, particularly in relation to health, well-being, trauma, the (mis)use of positional power, and how nurse leaders, management and human resources practices can ethically address these concerns. We encourage papers that propose or evaluate interventions designed to foster respectful, inclusive, and supportive work environments.

We welcome systematic review articles, empirical studies using qualitative, quantitative, or mixed methods, as well as practice-based papers, and theoretical and/or conceptual analyses.

The special issue is slated to appear in print in August 2026. Accepted manuscripts will be available online ahead of print.
