Transport and land use: a recent update
Land use plays a critical role in reducing automobile dependence, mitigating associated externalities, and promoting sustainable transport. Over the past two decades, extensive research has explored the relationship between transport and land use, providing valuable insights for formulating effective land use strategies. Compact and mixed-use development, in particular, has been identified as a key factor in encouraging environmentally friendly travel.
At the same time, transport systems and land use have been rapidly co-evolving, driven by various factors such as the advent of new mobility services, the expansion of cities, the increasing prevalence of remote work, the intensification of climate change, and the imperative of achieving sustainable development. This co-evolution presents novel challenges and opportunities for understanding the interaction between transport and land use in the contemporary era.
Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
1. Associations between travel behavior, car ownership, and the built environment;
2. Impacts of transportation infrastructure on urban form;
3. Spatial variations in the temporal dynamics of the transport-land use nexus;
4. Comparative analyses of the scales of the association between transport and land use;
5. Role of digital and green technologies in optimizing transport and land use;
6. Economic, societal, and economic consequences of the evolving transport-land use relationship;
7. Projections and scenarios for the future interaction between transport and land use.
