Theoretical Approaches in Victimology Research

We are pleased to be guest editing this special issue and are looking for a range of manuscripts that address a variety of issues in the field of Victimology theory and research. We are looking for submissions that speak to, but not limited to, the following topics:

  • Manuscripts examining new theoretical developments in victimology, including applications of criminological theory that enhance understanding of victimology.
  • Research examining the link between elements of routine activity theory and victimization and exposure to violence.
  • Research presenting and assessing victim experiences and perspectives on the cause(s) of victimization.
  • Research examining the victim-offender overlap: implications for victimology theory.
  • Research examining ecological explanations of victimization including deviant place theory, and lifestyle theory.

We strongly encourage and welcome quantitative, qualitative and mixed-methods submissions, as well as the above-mentioned reviews examining theoretical applications of criminological theory that enhance understanding of victimology.

Submissions should be a robust abstract of about 450 words that summarizes the planned manuscript. While we are asking for more abstract details for consideration in the special issue, final abstracts will be unstructured and limited to 100 words.

Please note: Abstract review and acceptance by our guest editors represent step one. All submitted manuscripts will then undergo independent peer review by two or more reviewers, with initial decisions typically made 4 to 6 weeks after submission.

Timeline for Special Issue:

  • Abstract Due Date: June 15, 2024
  • Editor responses inviting full submissions: July 15, 2024
  • Final Manuscript Due Date: November 15, 2024 (papers are typically between 10,000 and 20,000 words)
  • Expected Publication Date: Mid-2025
