Supporting Transportation Electrification Through Renewable Energy Integration

This call for papers invites researchers, practitioners, policymakers, and industry experts to contribute their insights and innovations towards supporting transport electrification through renewable energy integration. The U.S. National Blueprint for Transportation Decarbonization, buildings decarbonization, and zero-carbon grids  call for massive reductions in greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 2050 through adoption and integration of sustainable transportation modes, energy efficient appliances (EEAs) such as geothermal heat pumps, energy storage solutions such as stationary batteries and thermal energy storage, and solar photovoltaics (PVs).  Given the ambitious sector-specific decarbonization goals, the integrated cross-sectoral decarbonization efforts might provide accelerated and mutual benefits to envision seamlessly integrated future energy systems to support the growing power demand.  This call for papers seeks to explore the intersection of transport electrification-renewable energy integration to foster a deeper understanding of how these domains can synergize in behavioral modification, public-private partnerships, and overall techno-social space for a sustainable future. Reports about operational systems and related innovations in smart city technologies and services such as Internet of Things (IoT), Artificial Intelligence (AI), and big data analytics are also encouraged when these systems support operation and/or optimization among multiple sectors. These include and are not limited to cross-sectoral energy use, enhancement of grid stability, efficiency of multimodal transportation systems, and contributions to the overarching goals of sustainable urban development.

Topics of interest:

* Strategies to Low-Carbon Energy Systems:  Investigate the interrelationships among sustainable technologies across multiple sectors and identify equitable adoption and adaptation strategies for various community types to increase energy savings and resilience, while reducing energy consumption.
* Investigate the Nexus of Renewable Energy-Powered Multimodal Transportation Systems: Investigate the feasibility, benefits, and challenges of utilizing renewable energy sources (e.g., solar, battery storage) to support multimodal transport electrification, including infrastructure requirements and grid integration strategies.
* Regulatory and Policy Frameworks: Examine the role of policy frameworks, incentives, and regulations in promoting the adoption and utilization of renewable technologies and recommend new policies (e.g., bundled incentivization) presented through analysis of real-world data.
* Highlight Challenges, Research Needs and Opportunities in Cross-Sectoral Research: Present case studies, pilot (or deployment) projects, and best practices from real-world implementation of renewable energy – integrated transportation electrification research highlighting challenges and opportunities.
