Student Success and the Impact of Map and Geospatial Library Services

The Journal of Map & Geography Libraries invites articles highlighting the diverse ways in which map and geospatial library services impact student success in and out of the classroom. Student success is a core mission and high priority across academic institutions and libraries. The purpose of this special issue is to share best practices and showcase innovative ways that map and geospatial library professionals are measuring and impacting the academic, professional, and personal success of students.

We encourage a broad range of contributions including original research articles, literature review articles, case studies, and critical reflection papers supported by literature and/or professional practice. We welcome submissions from library professionals and students with perspectives from beyond map and geospatial information librarianship. Where appropriate, we encourage authors to consider co-authorship opportunities for collaborators such as student employees and/or disciplinary instructors.

Suggested topics include, but are not limited to:

  • Defining and measuring the impact of map and geospatial services on student success through library assessment
  • Geospatial education and student success, including teaching collaborations with disciplinary instructors
  • Advancing student research through map and geospatial services, including collections, consultations, project support, etc.
  • Outreach and engagement with K-12 students and instructors to contribute to student success beyond our institutions
  • Advancing student success through engaging and impactful student employment in map and geospatial services
  • Best practices for supervising and mentoring student employees or advisees
  • Map and geospatial education in library and information science programs to prepare future professionals
