JAR Special Issue on Stingless Bees

The Journal of Apicultural Research (JAR) published by the International Bee Research Association (IBRA) is now seeking submissions for a Special Issue on Stingless Bees to be published in 2022.

Stingless bees (Apidae: Meliponini) are the largest and most diverse group of social bees. But despite their diversity, they are much less studied than honey bees or bumble bees. With their predominantly tropic distribution, stingless bees collect pollen and produce honey from a diversity of tropical and subtropical plant species, thereby providing crucial pollination services in these habitats. As is true for many other insects, stingless bees today are facing new anthropogenic challenges such as climate change, habitat destruction, and new pests and diseases.

This special issue welcomes creative contributions on all species of stingless bees from across the world. This includes, but is not limited to, the following topics:

  • Toxicology
  • Pathology (parasites and pathogens)
  • Biogeography
  • Genetics
  • Behavior
  • Niche modeling
  • Physiology
  • Conservation
  • Ecology
  • Traditional knowledge and practices

Articles on pharmacological studies on hive products are not the focus of this special issue. Preference will be given to papers of broad general interest and studies from underrepresented regions.

Submission Instructions

Abstracts should be submitted by August 15, 2021. Abstracts submissions can include original research articles, notes and comments, and reviews.

When submitting your abstract, in the title field please write: 'Special issue Stingless Bees: ' followed by the title of your study. The abstract should include a comprehensive summary of the study with a brief introduction of the motivation for the research question, the methods used, the results obtained and a conclusion statement. Please review the instructions to authors before submitting your abstract.

Submitted abstracts will be evaluated by the special issue editors, and authors will be notified by the end of September 2021. Selected authors will be asked to submit their full papers by December 31, 2021 at the latest. Abstract selection does not guarantee acceptance of the full paper, which will go through standard peer review for acceptance in the Journal of Apicultural Research.
