Smart cities and construction: advances, visualisation, novel applications and case studies

Smart cities and infrastructure can be more efficient if high quality data is generated by the use of Internet of Things (IoT) solutions and connected to digital twin. Digital twin can enhance the efficiency of data visualisation, simulation and collaboration tools. The current practice intends to collect vast data sets from environment, building and city, activities and citizen-related data provide critical information to run smart systems that potentially assists with managers and decision makers in a real time manner.

We invite scholars to submit high-quality manuscripts and report the outcome of their data experimentations or field investigations on relevant themes listed below.  We also encourage scholars to present their proposed approaches for visualising Information. Visualization is known as one of the cornerstones of Data Science, turning the richness of Big Data being produced through new techniques, algorithms and systems into applied sciences and actionable knowledge.

The special issue collects scholarly papers focusing on different applications of big data approaches, new advances in analytical approaches, integration of artificial intelligence, Internet of things, satellite data and other advanced remote sensing tools for addressing challenges in smart city, infrastructure, construction, environmental and global development challenges. Potential topics for this special issue include (but are not limited to) the following themes:

  • Geographic Information Systems (GIS) or Building Information Modelling (BIM)
  • Digital twin and big data
