Simulation-Optimization & Simheuristics
Simulation-Optimization methods and, in particular, simheuristics are becoming a powerful tool for optimizing real-life systems under uncertainty conditions. Applications of these methods can be found in areas such diverse as logistics and transportation, manufacturing and production, smart cities, telecommunication networks, healthcare, or finance. These methods hybridize optimization and simulation components and, in the case of simheuristics, metaheuristics algorithms are employed as the main optimization component. Extension of these methods also consider combinations of metaheuristics with exact optimization methods, machine learning methods, or fuzzy techniques.
This JOS special issue aims at compiling recent advances, both of theoretical and practical nature, in the fields of simulation-optimization and simheuristics. In particular, the special issue welcomes novel methodological innovations in these methods as well as their applications in improving the performance of different systems operating under stochastic conditions.
