Global Seaweed Biobanking : A Review of the Current Landscape and Future Needs

 The collection, isolation, and preservation of macroalgal genetic material in biobanks is a critical resource for conserving biodiversity. This enables access to these genetic resources for supporting fundamental and applied research, as well as supporting sustainable aquaculture and restoration efforts.  Within this Special Issue on "Global Seaweed Biobanking", we are looking to compile a collection of original manuscripts, opinion pieces, and review articles relating to macroalgal culture collections and conservation efforts.

This will cover, but not be limited to:

i) current and future perspectives of biobanking endeavours on continental scale;
ii) the need for (inter)national policy, regulation, and frameworks;
iii) novel research into algal characterisation, population genetics, selective breeding and restoration efforts;
iv) developments within long-term storage and cryopreservation; and
v) any other pertinent topic relating to seaweed biobanking globally.

Submission Instructions

Thank you for the interest in writing a paper for the Special Issue in Applied Phycology. We have had a great response so far. To help with preparing the manuscript, here are details and an outline of the suggested structure.

Manuscript submission date: By 30th September (negotiable if that is not possible).

Length of manuscript: Up to 10 pages but can be shorter.

Where to submit your manuscript: When you are ready to submit your manuscript, you will need to contact Dr Kate Schoenrock ([email protected]) to arrange a waiver code and then go to https://www.tandfonline.com/journals/tapy20 and follow the link to the biobanking tab. You then follow the instructions to submit.
