Safety and Innovation in Out-of-Home Care
Australian Social Work, an internationally peer-reviewed journal reflecting current thinking and trends in social work, is seeking submissions for a Special Issue edited by Dr Robyn Miller and Meena Singh on the topic of “Safety and innovation in out-of-home care”.
Original manuscripts from national and international authors are invited that focus on innovations that demonstrate a drive to improve outcomes for young people living in out-of-home care. We know that young people living in out-of-home care deserve better. This Special Issue will provide a forum for the transfer of knowledge about evidence-based and evidence-informed programmes, practice wisdom and research contributing to real, much needed change in out-of-home care.
Submissions are encouraged that consider optimising outcomes for young people in out-of-home care who are over-represented such as Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people and young people with disability.
Topics may include and are not restricted to Innovative practice and programmes demonstrating improved outcomes for children and young people living in out-of-home care including:
- Responding to the over-representation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and young people;
- Promoting cultural safety and connection;
- Meeting the diverse needs of children and young people with disability;
- Preventing and responding to sexual exploitation and harmful sexual behaviour;
- Therapeutic approaches to trauma recovery;
- Involving children and young people in programme design and delivery;
- Supporting connection with family of origin.
The Guest Editors for this Special Issue are Dr. Robyn Miller, Chief Executive Officer, MacKillop Family Services and Commissioner Meena Singh, Victorian Commissioner for Aboriginal Children and Young People. For any queries/additional information before submission please contact Dr Nick Halfpenny, Director Policy and Research, MacKillop Family Services email: nick.halfpenny@- mackillop.org.au, ph: 03 9257 2222.
