Often Overlooked Multiple Exceptionalities

This special issue will showcase the array of disabilities affecting the lives of gifted children and youth, and educational accommodations that often limit and delimit their optimal talent development. Manuscripts addressing the following subtopics are welcome:

  • Conduct Disorder
  • Developmental Coordination Disorder/Dyspraxia
  • Mood Disorders (bipolar, depressive, cyclothymic)
  • Narcissistic Personality Disorder
  • Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder
  • Oppositional Defiant Disorder
  • Personality Disorders (obsessive-compulsive, social/pragmatic, avoidant personality)
  • Other associated topics

Each manuscript must explicitly address the following points:

  • The conundrum of identification/diagnosis
  • Alternatives to traditional diagnostic procedures to emphasize talent identification
  • Strength-based perspectives explaining that accommodations can nurture talent
  • Opportunities for educators and mental health professionals to accommodate talent identification and development
  • Opportunities for parents to nurture talent

Introductory and conclusive sections written by the guest editors will address the issues of identification with particular emphasis on differentiating behaviors emblematic of talent from pathological behaviors.
