Robotics and ELSI (Ethical, Legal, and Social Implications)

The main purpose of this special issue is to explore the interplay between robotics and ethical, legal, and social implications (ELSI). This issue seeks to publish innovative research, state-of-the-art developments, and forward-looking perspectives on the complex challenges and opportunities at the intersection of robotics and society.

This special issue welcomes revised and substantially extended versions of papers presented at relevant conferences. Among them, the International Conference on Robot Ethics and Standards (ICRES) is one potential source of contributions. Additionally, we invite submissions based on papers presented at the International Conference on Advanced Robotics and its Social Impacts (ARSO), provided they have been significantly updated and expanded.

Topics of interest for this special issue include, but are not limited to: Research, design and development, and use of robots that interact collaboratively

·         ELSI in robotics

·         Ethical challenges and solutions in human-robot interaction

·         White lies and deception in robot communication

·         Trust dynamics between humans and robots

·         Cognitive robotics and its societal implications

·         Assistive systems for healthcare and daily living

·         Virtual reality and augmented reality in robotics

·         Generative AI for enhancing human-robot interaction

·         User modeling and personalization in robotics

·         Advanced sensing of human behavior

·         Autonomous systems and societal integration

·         Governance, policy, and standardization for robotics

·         Child and elderly care robotics

·         Economic challenges
