Residential Care Personnel: Workforce Issues and Solutions

This international special issue seeks to critically examine workforce issues for Residential Care Personnel working at agencies (public and private) providing out-of-home care to children and adolescents around the globe. Submissions can be research articles reporting findings of studies (qualitative, quantitative or mixed-methods) or conceptual articles. They can also be practice-focused case studies comprising an analysis of what is working in individual agencies/programs. We welcome collaborative submissions from teams comprising practitioners and academic colleagues. Papers should include a section about the relevance to policy and/or practice.

We are seeking submissions on the following topics:
• What constitutes a Residential Care Personnel? What are their roles and responsibilities? How do workers operate within a wider team?
• What are the best ways to recruit and retain workers?
• How has COVID impacted the recruitment and retention of Residential Care Personnel?
• What are the pre-employment training and qualification requirements for Residential Care Personnel?
• How are workers trained within their role?
• How extensive is burnout? How is burnout best prevented/managed?
• Is self-care a focus for Residential Care Personnel? What opportunities for self-care are available? How easily can it be accessed?

Prospective authors are strongly encouraged to discuss their specific focus or ideas with the Guest Editors in advance of submission.
