Cutting-edge research areas in construction management

The International Journal of Construction Management invites research papers on the above theme for inclusion in a Special Issue to be published in April 2022, which will be edited by Dr. Xia, Associate Professor at Queensland University of Technology.

Aim and Scope

In recent years, the world is witnessing a new round of technological revolution and profound shifts in the research paradigm, with transdisciplinary and convergent research playing a leading role in the development of science and technology (NSFC, 2021). The construction management research has no exception. The construction and building industry plays a significant role to the global economy, but has been plagued with cost overrun, time delay, and stagnant productivity. Meanwhile, it has been widely accepted that the construction industry is ripe for disruption given the current innovations poised such as 5D building information modelling, digital collaboration, internet of things, and future-proof design (McKinsey 2016). The construction management thus calls for cutting-edge research to facilitate such disruption and promote technology and management innovations.

To meet the national demands for addressing global challenges and advancing original innovation, the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) comprehensively introduced and implemented a rigorous and objective merit-review system to fulfil its mission of supporting basic research, fostering talented researchers, developing international cooperation and promoting socioeconomic development. It gives timely support to truly new ideas and concepts which provide concrete solutions to meaningful scientific problems, including those in the construction management area.

We therefore invite researchers who received NSFC research support of year 2021 in construction management area to contribute to this Special Issue. This special issue will provide the platform for those NSFC grant recipients to share their current cutting-edge research areas in construction management in China.
