Recent Developments in the Remote Sensing of Night-time Light
Night-time light remote sensing provides a unique perspective of observing human being activities and socioeconomic developments from outer space, and it has rapidly grown in the last decade. Especially, there are a growing number of new sensors and products of the night-time light, resulting in a variety of data processing and mining methods as well as more application fields. The topic of the special issue will include following aspects of night-time light remote sensing:
- Data set from new sensors (e.g. NOAA-20, UAVs, commercial satellites such as Jilin-1)
- Calibration and validation of night-time light images
- New observation techniques (e.g. Multi-spectral sensors, ground-based camera)
- Data fusion technique (e.g. Intercalibration of different night-time light images)
- Physical modelling of night-time light (e.g. Radiometric transfer model for night-time light)
- Application in Sustainable Development Goals (e.g. poverty mapping)
- Application in monitoring socioeconomic effect of COVID-19
- Application in monitoring light pollution
