Remote Sensing for Disaster Monitoring
In today’s scenario of the urban modern world, the process of disaster monitoring and control remains to be the biggest challenge among government and other industry experts. More efforts have been put on devising contingency plans and protection measures. Estimation of preventive measures and likely possibility of natural disasters with a better assessment of a particular region, for risk and vulnerability, can solve several issues. This critical planning structure enables the planners and operators with proper knowledge of target mitigation prioritization and preparedness activities for specific areas. Disaster monitoring is a complex dynamic scenario, to effectively deal with such complex situations, it is mandatory to design and implement effective disaster prevention and monitoring facilities. With the most accurate insights, people across the danger zone can be better equipped and empowered with the potential to resist disaster and natural hazards.
With the use of remote sensing and its spatial analysis capabilities, one can design the most accurate disaster monitoring methodologies that encourage a more comprehensive understanding of distinct natural disasters, their outcomes and their threat across a particular area. Remote sensing methodologies often act as a decision support system; the data acquired from remote sensing devices are further processed and analyzed to predict the possibility of various natural disasters. This can further help to effectively plan emergency strategies and preventive measures. Data obtained from remote sensing devices are most important and it is most essential for effective and quick disaster management strategies. It has become ubiquitous in disaster monitoring, prevention and recovery missions. Today, with several scientific advancements it has become easier to carry out these operations. However, an enhancement to remote sensing technologies will bring out a multitude of new ways for disaster prediction with improved accuracy and efficiency measures. Remote sensing has numerous applications with considerable significance. This special issue aims to bring out advances in remote sensing for disaster monitoring and prevention activities.
