Oculomics – Eye and Systemic Health

Oculomics is an emerging interdisciplinary field that explores how ocular features reflect systemic health. The eye offers a unique, non-invasive window into the body, allowing early detection of systemic conditions ranging from cardiovascular and metabolic diseases to neurological disorders and beyond. As technological and clinical advances enable increasingly detailed ocular assessments, the potential of oculomics to complement and enhance systemic disease screening and monitoring has expanded rapidly.

To support and accelerate this progress, Ophthalmic Epidemiology plans a special issue dedicated to oculomics. This issue will feature work that:

  • Advances the understanding of the eye–body connection
  • Introduces innovative methodologies
  • Provides rigorous epidemiological insights
  • Bridges clinical, translational, and population health perspectives

Submission Instructions

We invite authors to submit manuscripts for consideration in this special issue. Contributions may include original research, reviews, or perspectives focused on clinical, epidemiological, or translational aspects of oculomics.  Please select "Oculomics – Eye and Systemic Health" when submitting your paper to ScholarOne. The Special Issue is planned for publication in late 2027. All submissions will undergo the journal’s standard peer-review process, and only articles that pass peer-review will be accepted for publication.
