Nitrogen is a macronutrient that directly determines plant productivity. For sustainable and stable food production, nitrogen use efficiency for crop production needs to be improved. This special section will feature articles on the latest information about plant nitrogen utilization, including the uptake and transport of nitrogen, the metabolism of nitrogenous compounds, and the nitrogen use efficiency for photosynthesis and biomass production. We hope that this special section contributes to an improved understanding of plant nitrogen utilization for greener food production.
