Mycobiomics & One Health Synergy
Fungi have long been viewed through narrow lenses, either as pathogens or as biotechnological resources, yet they are keystone organisms that influence the health of plants, animals, humans and entire ecosystems. The advent of high-resolution metagenomics reveals the mycobiome to be a dynamic signalling network that can either mitigate or exacerbate planetary health stressors. This special issue invites the global community to recognise the importance of mycobiomics in the context of One Health, where humans, animals, plants and the environment share a common fungal DNA, RNA, protein and metabolite currency. We are seeking data, reviews and opinion pieces that explore how fungal genes, pathways and ecological services traverse kingdom boundaries to influence nutrition, immunity, climate resilience and disease trajectories. By integrating fungal-centric science across the clinical, veterinary, agricultural and ecological sectors, this issue aims to catalyse transdisciplinary consortia capable of predicting and ultimately steering mycobiome trajectories towards synergistic health outcomes for all holobiont partners on Earth.
