Soccer & Society

The special issue will focus on the intersection of mental health and football. We invite contributions from researchers and practitioners from around the globe to contribute original research, review articles, position papers, case studies, theoretical and methodological papers, and professional practice articles. We are particularly interested in papers that explore mental health in all aspects of the game from community to elite and professional levels,  which focus on all those who play, work and volunteer in football.

Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

• The lived experience of those playing, working and/or volunteering in football
• The links between working conditions in football and mental health
• The role of multi-disciplinary teams in supporting mental health and illness
• The management and treatment of mental illness
• Mental health as an aspect of player care
• Mental health support systems and services
• Policy approaches to mental health promotion

Submissions should be original, unpublished work and must follow Soccer and Society's submission guidelines. All submissions will undergo a rigorous peer-review process.

Those wishing to submit an expression of interest are asked to email an abstract no longer than 500 words to the Editor Handler, Dr Jimmy O'Gorman ([email protected]), by Thursday 30 May 2024.

After reviewing submitted abstracts, the guest editorial team will communicate decisions to authors and invite successful applicants to submit full paper drafts, in accordance with Soccer and Society.
