The Neuroscience of False Memory
While forgetting is typically viewed as the foremost hindrance to successful memory, false memories, or memory for facts, items, or events that never happened, or are inconsistent with reality, can be equally disruptive. With the aim of better understanding the neural underpinning of false memories, Memory will be hosting a special issue devoted to the neuroscience of false memories.
The overarching aim of this special issue is to highlight recent research that leverages neuroimaging analyses to study the cognitive basis of false memory. We are especially interested in studies that use either network connectivity, univariate and/or multivariate analyses applied to neuroimaging data (e.g., multi-voxel pattern classification, pattern similarity analysis) or to other types of neurocognitive or physiological data. Studies using structural MRI to examine false memory in well-powered samples will also be considered. Along with research focused on typically-developing adults, we welcome submissions examining developing populations (e.g., children, adolescents, older adults) and/or patient populations.

Choose open accessSubmission Instructions
There is a two-stage process for submission. First, we are asking for a short (300-500) word abstract and a tentative author list before January 31, 2023. Within one month of receiving the abstract, we will make a decision on whether a full submission will be invited. The goal is that the full paper will be submitted around 3 months following the invitation (on or around May 31, 2023). Abstracts can be sent to Nancy Dennis ([email protected]) and Yana Fandakova ([email protected]).
