Membranes in Extraction and Ion Exchange

The gradual depletion of natural resources and growing cost of their acquisition have caused a search for new separation technologies that effectively replace the used so far. Membrane separation processes, existing in industrial applications for two decades at least, offer adaptable solutions to these challenges.  Some of them   are well-established, while others are still developing and offer potential for breakthroughs. This Special Issue is dedicated to compile collection of papers focused on membrane technologies in extraction and ion exchange processes.

This Special Issue invites studies on membrane based separations controlled by the following gradients: pressure, concentration, affinity, electrical field and temperature. Special attention will be paid to hybrid and integrated membrane systems that follow the environmental regulations and are in line with materials circuity context.

To keep our invitation wide and generate platform for dialogue, we invite contributions that cover the following topics:

  • Membrane filtration like MF, UF, NF, or RO, and their hybrid systems for extraction of various species such as metals, nonmetals, metalloids, organic substances etc.
  • Electromembrane processes like ED, BMED, MCDI, FCDI, and their hybrid systems for extraction and ion exchange.
  • Liquid membranes including ELM, SLM, and contactors for extracting various substances.
  • Comprehensive studies on integrated membrane processes for separation of inorganic and organic species.
  • Explorations of other membrane-supported separations for extraction.

Submission Instructions

Please submit your paper to the journal's submission site.

When prompted by the site with "Are you submitting your paper for a specific special issue or article collection?", select Yes.

From there, a dropdown menu will appear. Please select the special issue title "Membranes in Extraction and Ion Exchange (MEMTEK)". This will ensure your paper is considered for the special issue.
