Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Mental Health and Quality of Life

The Journal of Prevention & Intervention in the Community (JPIC) cordially invites you to submit a paper for inclusion in our issue theme on artificial intelligence (AI) in mental health and quality of life. Formerly known as Prevention in Human Services, the journal has been in print since 1995 and focuses on providing the most up-to-date information on effective community prevention and intervention programs and strategies. Often serving as an important resource for human services administrators, supervisors, planners, education specialists, clinical practitioners, researchers, health care and helping professionals, the journal is particularly interested in new methods of service delivery and models of practice, with an emphasis on mental health and human services development. All articles will be screened initially by the Guest Editors. Articles that meet the guidelines will undergo rigorous blind peer review by two anonymous referees. The journal is published by Taylor & Francis, Inc.

Artificial intelligence (AI) is increasingly influencing the delivery, assessment, and experience of mental health care (Olawade et al., 2024). AI-based interventions—including conversational chatbots, digital tools that support daily wellness practices, and machine-learning algorithms that tailor treatment recommendations—are now being used globally. These technologies have the potential to address critical gaps in care by expanding access to affordable services while reducing stigma associated with seeking support. However, the rapid proliferation of these technologies has also raised unresolved concerns, including questions about therapeutic effectiveness, algorithmic bias, data privacy, and the potential for unintended harm (Ni et al., 2025). As a result, there is an urgent need for rigorous, multidisciplinary research that not only evaluates the efficacy of AI-based interventions but also examines the complex interactions between AI technologies and individuals’ mental health and quality of life (Espino Carrasco et al., 2025).

JPIC is particularly interested in publishing community prevention approaches and interventions that assess the efficacy of AI-based interventions. Examples include but are not limited to AI-mediated therapeutic Interventions, digital mental health applications, social and psychological impact of AI-curated platforms, technology addiction and compulsive use patterns, and methodological and ethical considerations. The journal accepts original research articles, quantitative, qualitative and mixed-method empirical studies, systematic reviews, meta-analyses, and a limited number of conceptual papers.
