Change and Challenge: Jewish Education in the time of COVID-19

The editors of the Journal of Jewish Education invite papers for a special issue highlighting Jewish education during the COVID-19 crisis. Papers should deal with research (academic or practitioner) addressing some aspect of the COVID-19 experience as it relates to teaching and learning in a range of Jewish educational contexts (e.g. universities, camps, schools, day schools congregational schools, adult education, education travel, etc.). Submissions are invited from anthropological, sociological, educational, philosophical and/or psychological perspectives, across methodological frameworks, and pertaining to formal and informal education settings serving the full age range of learners, from early childhood through adult and senior populations.

Questions to be considered may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • How has technology changed the nature and dynamics of Jewish teaching and learning?
  • How has the shift to online platforms enabled or inhibited the development of particular kinds of knowledge sharing and/or meaning making?
  • What is the impact on young people in relation to the cancellation of face-to-face Jewish experiences?
  • In what ways may the COVID-19 response inform Jewish education in a post-pandemic world?
