Child Sexual Abuse Victimization in Incarcerated Populations
Research shows that those involved in the criminal justice system have higher rates of childhood trauma, including child sexual abuse (CSA). In understanding the prevalence of CSA in correctional settings, policymakers and correctional staff can be better informed in choosing appropriate assessments and intervention approaches. This is especially important given childhood victimization has an impact on the success of mental health treatment for offenders which may contribute to recidivism rates. This call for papers attempts to build on the limited literature in this area.
Manuscript submissions for the special issue may extend across fields (e.g., psychology, education, social work, criminal justice, etc.) and provide a range of empirical data, assessment, intervention and prevention programs that expand the understanding of screening, detecting, assessing and treating those who are incarcerated who have experienced CSA.
Topics may include, but are not limited to:
- Screening tools for Identification of CSA of those incarcerated
- Assessment measures and tools of the CSA psycho-physio-social consequences of those incarcerated
- Treatment and intervention of CSA and trauma of those incarcerated
- Prevalence studies
- Relation of the Adverse Childhood Experience of CSA on later incarceration of males and females for various crimes
- Recidivism
