Innovations for Transportation Decarbonization

The transportation sector is responsible for a significant portion of the energy-related CO2 emissions that contribute to global warming. Over the past five decades, emissions from transportation have grown faster than those from any other sector. In the future, a massive growth in the demand for transportation will be continuous expected. Therefore, decarbonizing transportation is an important research topic because it helps reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and mitigate climate change. Decarbonized transportation can be approached, but not limited by electric vehicles, public transportation, sustainable urban development, as well as carpooling and active transportation such as walking and cycling, etc.

The purpose of this Special Issue on "Innovations for Transportation Decarbonization" is to publish original high quality papers on transportation operations and management related to energy use, environmental improvement, and engineering and policy design/improvement measures for decarbonization. The goal is to select topics/papers that address strategies to decarbonize the global transportation sector and promote carbon-neutral mobility to help mitigate climate change.

In the spirit of exploring the emerging trends and strategies for decarbonizing the transport sector, the International Journal of Sustainable Transportation (IJST) invites cutting-edge studies consideration for publication in this special issue. Of particular interest are papers that address the following aspects:

  1. National/regional policies for sustainable urban development
  2. The role of the transportation sector in the carbon neutral policy
  3. Technologies and innovations for enhanced sustainability and decarbonization
  4. Sustainability and the role of e-mobility in smart trip-chain transportation
  5. Policies and actions for promotion of new energy vehicles
  6. Promotion of use of new or cleaner energies in transportation
  7. Rational use of new energy vehicles;
  8. Greener travel behavior
