Protected Area and Sustainability in the Himalayan and Tibet Plateau
The Himalayan and Tibet Plateau is one of the world's biodiversity hotspots and a complex transboundary protection area, it is a critical transition zone between two biogeographic regions (Palearctic and Indo-Malayan). Numerous national parks and nature reserves has established within this area to protect the fauna and flora.
However, the environment of Himalayan and Tibet Plateau is facing with the climate change, globalization, human activities and other issues. For example, some high-level species, such as snow leopards and argali, have a wide range of activities and are susceptible to human activities. Under the climate change, the melting glacier has disturbance the ecosystem diversity.
We realized that the Himalayan and Tibet Plateau consists of high mountain regions by five countries, including China, Pakistan, India, Nepal, and Bhutan. The five governments have totally different management ideas, priorities, and capacities for conservation. This region is a key research area in the fields of geography, ecology, and environmental science, and has published articles in top journals such as Nature or Science. So, we think it will be an interesting theme to discuss the sustainable development in this highest area on the world.
We encourage Chinese, Nepal, India scientists and others to submit relevant manuscripts. See the more details about the scope as the following:
- Ecosystem shift under climate change stress and impact on keystone species
- Community participation in conservation and protected area planning
- Local community interests and conflict resolution in protected area
- Transboundary cooperation of national park
- Glacier protection and outdoor recreation in height above sea level area
- Environmental interpretation and nature education in protected area
