Production Optimization in Carbon Reduction Engineering Management
Global climate change is a common and serious problem faced by all countries in the world. Due to the consumption of fossil fuels, carbon dioxide is released into the atmosphere and thus causing global climate disruption. Since the implementation of the Paris Agreement, many countries have proposed various policies to combat climate change. In this process, carbon reduction engineering, as one of the most challenging but feasible ways to achieve carbon neutrality or zero-net carbon emissions, has received extensive attention from both practical and academic perspectives.
Carbon reduction engineering, also known as climate engineering internationally, is an umbrella term for engineering measures targeted at combating climate change and achieving carbon neutrality. In general, decarbonization in the production process is the key to the implementation of carbon reduction engineering. The related production optimization problem has drawn widespread attention in both production management and supply chain management. In production management, studies focus on the production optimization of carbon emission reduction paths, manufacturing/remanufacturing process with carbon reduction, energy production planning, reduction efficiency evaluation, the use of optimization, simulation, and other methods to examine carbon reduction engineering in production. In supply chain management, studies are on the production decision of a supply chain with carbon reduction, emission allowance allocation in a supply chain, low-carbon and sustainable supply chain operations, etc. Carbon reduction modeling remains a crucial task when addressing the problem of low-carbon supply chain management as many companies still face significant external pressure from governments and society to reduce their overall emissions.
Therefore, it is particularly important to study the scientific management of carbon reduction engineering based on the theory of management and production optimization and related discipline theories. This special issue is dedicated to new research of production optimization in carbon reduction engineering management from both theoretical and application perspectives. The focus is on the development of innovative management and production optimization methodologies for the study of carbon reduction engineering.
