Energy Concerns for Business Intelligence and National Security:           Identifying the Threat and Developing Solutions

The link between energy and national security is well-established and a continuing multifaced problem. The role of intelligence and every facet of it (e.g., collection, analysis, and production) has played a significant factor for governments and private industry in anticipating threats to this vital sector. For example, current intelligence assessments are focusing on Europe’s major energy concerns stem from supply-chain disruptions rooted in a pandemic, dependence on Russia, climate change, and the phasing out of coal and phasing in of renewable sources.

This issue is an opportunity to discuss business intelligence with an emphasis on energy and national security. It brings together prominent academic voices, experienced practitioners, and policymakers, offering an opportunity to “bridge the gap” between these sectors. We are looking for conference participants to identify critical issues and challenges, competing perspectives, new and existing trends, creative solutions for new technologies, and the emergence of new market conditions.

A sample of topics could include, but not exclusive of,

  • Critical infrastructure in the energy sector: challenges for the intelligence community
  • Asymmetrical conflicts and their impact on the global energy markets
  • Business Intelligence in the security of supply and energy efficiency
  • Weaponizing Energy: Discovering a new field of expertise in the intelligence community
  • Data-driven decisions in business and government sectors: The role of the intelligence services
  • Business Intelligence solutions in the energy market for actionable insights

In conjunction with this issue, will be a conference to present these papers. The conference will be held October 26-27, 2023, in Bucharest, Romania. The papers will be later published in this special issue.
