Innovations in response to current trends and practices in home health: First-person accounts.

We are seeking paper submissions for a special themed issue of Home Health Care Service Quarterly that highlights innovative responses and practices in home health. The issue hopes to highlight first-person accounts of innovations and innovative practices that may arise, at least in part, as responses to increasing demands for home health models that are effective and efficient.

The demand for affordable, medical and behavioral healthcare is unprecedented and likely to continue to grow exponentially. Advances in technology is both driving and being driven by this demand. However, we believe that many advances are practice and other driven and we want to capture those innovations to aid with both responses to, and innovations that drive, this rapid growth in home health care.

As a result, we are interested in paper submissions that represent a broad range of innovations, including but not limited to:

Innovation associated in service delivery that:

  • Reduce costs
  • Use creative funding structures
  • Uses new or improves current technology and
  • Introduces efficient practices
  • Represents cost benefits over traditional methodology

Cost savings associated with:

  •  Using home health instead of hospital admission after an Emergency Department visit
  • Using home health education visits to teach patients how to manage chronic illnesses
  • Using home health teams to provide in-home long-term care to patients rather than placing them in a nursing home or other assisted living facility.

Client/Patient Outcomes as a result of Innovation that demonstrate:

  • The difference, if any, of home health innovation compared with other forms of healthcare.
  • Benefits or challenges of home health care innovation when compared with other forms of healthcare.
  • Cost/benefit analyses of home health care compared with other forms of healthcare.

Other papers that may not fit these areas but that are focused on innovation are encouraged.
