Adverse Health Impacts of Inhaled Toxicants in Global Marginalized Communities
The challenges to disadvantaged and marginalized communities from air pollution are underappreciated. Often these communities are taken advantage of for a variety of reasons that are out of their control; these communities have minimal input and the most at stake. Bringing forward a focused discussion of the respiratory effects of toxicants on marginalized communities both worldwide and nationally is critically important with many implications not only to the affected communities, but also to many others indirectly impacted. Therefore, the overarching purpose of this special topic is to provide a broad array of examples of health impacts with details and historical context and where possible suggestions for remediation.
