Implementation Science in Aphasiology

Implementation science is defined as “the scientific study of the use of strategies to adopt and integrate evidence-based health interventions into routine practice” (National Institutes of Health), and is an area of growth within research and practice-based settings. Implementation scientists explore factors that influence the adoption of evidence-based interventions, including contextual factors relating to the organisational culture.

The goal of this special issue of Aphasiology is to characterise the role of implementation science in aphasia research studies, including challenges and considerations for clinicians and researchers, innovative methods, and future opportunities.

We are seeking articles that represent how aphasiologists use implementation science to plan, evaluate, tailor, scale up, and sustain interventions. The articles should explicitly describe how implementation theories and/or frameworks informed the studies, and discuss how the approach and/or findings may advance the field of implementation science and aphasiology.

We are also interested in manuscripts from across the globe and those that highlight research-practice partnerships.

We would welcome studies representative of involvement of people across different aphasia aetiologies, including stroke, brain tumour, traumatic brain injury, and dementia.
