Civil Engineering and Environmental Systems

The 12th Forum event of the International Forum on Engineering Decision Making was held in Stoos, Switzerland, December 5-8, 2023. Around 30 participants attended the Forum, representing five continents and eleven countries. 

The theme of the Forum event was Knowledge, Memory and Intelligence for Decision-Making in Today's Changing Society. Twenty-four presentations were given addressing how knowledge, memory, observations and predictive models may best be established and applied to support the development of strategies for governance and management of risk, resilience and sustainability of engineered societal systems. The presentations covered a broad range of perspectives and ideas on how emerging challenges related to processes of decision making, cognitive biases, philosophical perspectives in science, as well as climate change and natural hazards may be more appropriately addressed in support of societal decision making. 

Please note that this is an invitation-only Special Issue with selected papers from this Forum.

Authors are invited to submit original research articles, review papers, or case studies that contribute to technical decision making for infrastructure systems in today’s changing society. All submissions will undergo a rigorous peer-review process to ensure the highest quality of published work. 

A Word file with guidance on the appropriate style will be provided to those participating in this Special Issue.
