Genocide and Communication

Genocide is one of the deadliest forms of violence in human existence. There are unfortunately countless examples of genocide throughout history. The process of communication is one method through which we can understand the causes, prevent the spread of genocide, and end such atrocities. Researchers in numerous fields of communication, such as rhetoric, media, intergroup communication, gender, etc., have all explored genocide from various angles: the various drivers of genocide, motivations, communicative actions, preventative measures, genocide and texts, survivor stories, and many other social constructions. The purpose of this special issue to add to our understanding of the communicative aspects of genocide. The editor and reviewers are particularly interested in:

  1. Theoretical analyses of genocide
  2. Rhetorical analyses
  3. Analyses of media depictions of genocide
  4. Meta-analyses
  5. New methodological approaches to studying genocide
  6. Discussion of what is "genocide"
  7. Open analyses of the links between communication and genocide
  8. All methodological approaches are welcome
