Gender, Physical Activity, Global Fitness, Sport and Educational Environments
The Journal of Gender Studies calls for papers for a special issue that aims to highlight the extent to which gender and physical activity in educational environments relate to our performance of daily life.
Making sense of the body and health are part of routine life and taken-for-granted social behaviours. The body is constructed with words and actions, with meanings constructed in relation to specific cultural contexts. Constructions of gender play a fundamental role in this.
There is much work to do to help the research community comprehend the extent to which gender and physical activity in educational environments are related to our daily lives, our society and our history. In order to investigate these issues in-depth, this special issue seeks to address the subject of gender through some lines of action that have generated academic interest in recent years; body image, body cult, fears and insecurities about the body and social constructions around sport. We aim here to generate a space for reflection and debate, which will make this special issue a reference point for the advancement of this line of inquiry in years to come.
