Exploring the Intersection of Embedded Systems in Robotics and Bioengineering

In recent times, we have seen a rapid increase in infectious diseases like Covid-19. These diseases have spread widely through common means prompting the need for robots in the medical field. Bioengineering combined with robotics is also becoming more necessary. Additionally, technological advancements are moving towards Industry 4.0 with IoT technologies linked to embedded systems. This opens up new possibilities for specialized applications in fields requiring expertise, precision and large-scale data processing in bioengineering. The collaboration of robotics and bioengineering with embedded systems is driving significant progress in these fields by addressing various challenges. Some of the challenges in bioengineering including patient management, controlling mobility, supplying medicine without human intervention and non-human intervention disease diagnosis like pathogenic disease screening. Robots can effectively perform these tasks in collaboration with embedded technologies in the fields of robotics and bioengineering.

Normally, Embedded systems interact with their environment through sensors, actuators, microcontrollers and operators performing diverse computing tasks. They find applications in areas such as motor control, wireless communication, robotics, entertainment and e-commerce. Recent advances in embedded systems include enhanced artificial intelligence, on-chip solutions, automobiles, IoT and healthcare. By utilizing embedded technology in bioengineering various applications emerge, like continuous patient monitoring, robotic-assisted surgeries, wearable smart devices for heart rate monitoring and digital flow sensors. When integrated into robotics and bioengineering, embedded systems can have several positive impacts on society, such as optimizing time management, reducing reliance on human labor, and ensuring safety in hazardous conditions, like nuclear reactor control.

This special issue's main aim is to highlight the applications of embedded systems in bioengineering and robotics. It sheds light on the wide range of applications related to embedded robotics in bioengineering-related fields.

  • The manuscript submitted should be single-column, double-spaced, 30 pages including figures and illustrations for a full paper. The font size should be 11 points.
