Educational Technology in Language Teacher Development
Researchers of ‘21st century learning’ presaged an evolution of teaching and learning from authoritative to integrative, and from siloed to networked. The Covid-19 pandemic has intensified these shifts on a global scale. Teachers have done more transforming during this period than many other professions, and at a rate that is unprecedented. For all those who are invested in teacher education and in teachers’ continuous professional development, what role has educational technology played in supporting and advancing language teacher learning? What do we now envision for the future of language teacher development, and how will educational technology become increasingly essential? How is ‘technological pedagogical content knowledge’ (TPACK; Mishra and Koehler) being consciously modeled and enacted in language teacher education?
In this special issue, we explore these questions and draw the curtain back to see how those who prepare, train, educate and lead teacher learning have changed their own practices to keep apace with teacher needs, as well as how language teachers are meeting their own professional learning needs. Papers are invited on (but not limited to) the following areas:
--Designing methods, courses and trainings, with their associated embodied, enacted practices, in the online environment
--Addressing issues of equity in the design and implementation of online teacher education and promoting globalization in language education
--Examining how language teacher educators and professional development providers are developing their capacity to lead teacher learning with educational technologies
--Use of simulations, remote classroom interchanges and virtual spaces to foster language development
Planned date of print publication: June-July 2022
All papers will be published online as soon as they are accepted and finalised for publication.
