COVID-19 Research and Analysis
The pandemic spread of a novel coronavirus – SARS coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2) named Covid-19, is an unprecedented global crisis leading to huge number of casualties, economic losses, and disruption of daily activities. It was first reported to the WHO Country Office in China on 31 December 2019. Restrictive measures adapted by most countries was a quick response to establish a first line of defense and gain some crucial time to prepare for the next phases of this pandemic. Only with robust scientific advice it will be possible to design the most appropriate short, medium, and long-term strategies toward reducing the number of casualties and minimizing the huge economic and social impact of this crisis. Only the development of Vaccines that prevent SARS-CoV-2 infection and therapeutics that reduces the risk of severe Covid-19 are thus urgently needed. Currently the only effective rapid method to derive antiviral treatment for Covid-19 is the use of convalescent plasma derived hyperimmune globulin or drugs for lowering the “cytokines storm” as Remdesivir and hydroxychloroquine.
