Coastal Ecosystems and Global Change

Coastal ecosystems are known as one of the most productive ecosystems on the Earth, and they are playing vital roles in maintaining environmental health, sustaining economic development, and preserving biodiversity. They are also playing an increasingly important role in mitigating climate change and environmental degradation. However, coastal ecosystems are facing unprecedented challenges in the context of global change and increasing anthropogenic activities. Coastal ecosystems have become one of the most vulnerable ecosystems in the world.

This special issue will address topics related to coastal ecosystems and global change with focus on:

  • Coastal Wetland Ecosystems under Climate Change
  • Coastal Alien species, Invasion, and its Impacts on Coastal Ecosystem Services
  • Global Change and Evolutionary Adaptation
  • Long Term Ecological Research for Coastal Ecosystems
  • Land-based Human Activity and Sustainable Coastal Development
  • Integrated Coastal Ecosystem Management
