Women in Neuropsychology (WIN): Women as Participants in Neuropsychology Research
The overarching focus of this special issue is to highlight women as participants in neuropsychology research with the goal of encouraging research and clinical endeavors focused on this under-studied population. Specifically, we seek to include review articles and empirical research articles focused on women’s unique physiological, hormonal, psychiatric, and psychosocial presentations that contribute to their neurocognitive functioning.

We are soliciting articles that fit into one of the following content areas:
- Review Articles: Systematic or narrative reviews focused on the state of the literature investigating women’s presentations spanning various common neuropsychological conditions (e.g., dementia, acquired brain injury). Reviews may also focus on one aspect of a woman’s experience with a neurocognitive condition (e.g., multiple sclerosis in menopause; epilepsy in pregnancy). Review articles should summarize the literature and underline remaining questions and future research directions. To avoid overlapping topics, authors interested in submitting review articles, survey data, professional discussions, or calls to action should submit a letter of intent with a title and brief abstract outlining their idea to Special Issue Guest Editors (please include all editors in your email) by Friday, February 10, 2023 at 11:59 PM CST to be considered. Following this pre-submission process, authors should follow the June 2, 2023 deadline for submitting their full manuscript.
- Empirical Research: Empirical research may focus on (a) unique neurocognitive and/or psychological presentations of various neuropsychological conditions in women; and/or (b) treatment/intervention considerations for female patients. Sex/gender difference research will be considered so long as it is used for the purpose of highlighting issues related to women. Empirical research articles must be submitted by June 2, 2023.
If you have questions, please contact the Special Issue Guest Editors (please include all three co-editors in your email).
