The Climate Issue

Using geography to teach about climate and environmental topics in the 21st century.

Seeking submissions exploring the connections between geography, climate, the environment and justice. Conceived widely, we are looking for contemporary approaches and insights about place-based environmental studies to enrich K-12 and introductory higher education teaching. Both articles and lesson plans are welcome, if you have an article with a related lesson plan please submit separately.

We are looking for brief descriptions (+/- 250 words) and images of successful projects and hands-on approaches to highlight in a “Focus on Action” section.

Longer articles should illustrate the unique ability of geography to collaborate with other disciplines for holistic and meaningful educational experiences. Articles should also highlight the particular value of conducting Environmental education in a K-12 classroom using geographic topics. Articles should be no more than 2,500 words.

Lesson plans should demonstrate best-practices and effective usage of geographic concepts to promote environmental literacy. Lesson plans should be practical activities or exercises for K-12 educators’ planning and implementation. Lesson plans do not have a pre-determined length, use the journal’s lesson plan template for guidance.
