Climate Change, Energy and Economic Sustainability
This conference is jointly organized by the Asia-Pacific Applied Economics Association and Wenzhou Business School (China).
Climate change has impacted both individuals and businesses at an alarming rate. This is a global reality. The incidence of natural disasters globally, for instance, has increased threefold by 2021 compared to 1990. The recently concluded COP27 highlighted several concerns including greenhouse emissions reduction, transition to cleaner energy, and biodiversity and decarbonisation. Climate change has also influenced energy demand and supply having implications for energy prices. Energy prices overall have increased globally generating inflationary pressures and economic growth concerns. This conference is motivated by these concerns and attempts to contribute to the academic knowledge and policy discussions on climate change and understand its ramifications on the financial and economic systems. This special issue is, therefore, focused on research related to climate change, and its effects on energy and the financial and economic systems that have implications for sustainable economic growth and development. The conference welcomes papers that cover the following issues:
- Robust measures of climate risk;
- New approaches to estimating climate risk;
- Exploring models and empirical frameworks modelling how climate has impacted energy prices;
- Understanding the energy demand and supply issues as a result of climate change;
- Climate risk and financial stability;
- Climate risk and commodity prices;
- Climate risk measurement and management;
- Climate changes and their effects on small, medium and micro enterprises;
- Climate change and food insecurity;
- Climate change and insurance;
- Climate change and real estate markets;
- Climate change and food prices;
- Climate change and access to finance;
- Climate change and poverty;
- Climate change and its effects on the SME sector; and
- Climate change and its effects on monetary policy.
