Biodiversity conservation and ecological security on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau
Endemic species monitoring and observations are the foundation of biodiversity conservation. Maintaining biodiversity stability is the cornerstone to improve regional ecological security especially in biodiversity hotspots. Protected areas are the final refuge shelter for wildlife and its habitats conservation. Aiming to achieve regional sustainable development, it is necessary to clearly understand the importance of biodiversity conservation for enhancing ecological security. The objective of this special issue is to elucidate the biodiversity conservation and ecological security on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau responding to changing environments in protected area scale. This special issue calls for original and novel papers on identifying population and distribution of endemic species, new ideas on biodiversity conservation, design options for ecological security and sustainable management of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. Papers are invited from researchers to share new ideas, techniques, and findings from field observations and large-scale transect surveys. All manuscripts are encouraged to provide raw data and code for enhanced reproducibility. This special issue will mainly address the following scientific topics:
- New species (animals, plants and microorganisms) discovery based on field surveys
- Paths for community development and local people livelihood improvement
- Frameworks to identify ecological security patterns based on biodiversity conservation
- Options and practical suggestions for protected area management
